Reading and Watching for October, November, and December

Here’s the schedule for the rest of the year so you can read and watch ahead! That’s right, movies count as “texts” worth discussing.

If things go to plan, all three of these episodes will have been recorded in person rather than over video chat.

October

Jed and Esther Dyson recording

In October, Esther Dyson will be on to discuss Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro and the Spike Jonze film Her. Esther’s bio and influence are so spectacular that I won’t try to summarize them (read her wikipedia article, but I will say she’s the sister of previous guest George Dyson.

November

Jed and Mark Coatney recording

In November, Mark Coatney will be on to discuss A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin. Mark and I have been friends since he was at Tumblr and I helped get the U.S. government to use Tumblr as an official communication channel, united in a quixotic mission to use the Internet for good. I’m very glad he brought A Wizard of Earthsea into my life.

December

In December, I hope to talk to someone about Francis Ford Coppola’s 1974 movie The Conversation, after it is given a 50th anniversary screening in the Treasures from the Yale Film Archive event series. Guest TBD!

As always, drop me a line at jed at techsontexts.net if you have suggestions for pieces to discuss or guests I should have on.

Happy reading!
